An Anti Aging Therapy To Remember

As we get older, we may feel like our memories are not as sharp as they once were. While this may very well be a natural part of aging, there are things that you can do, as part of an anti aging therapy plan, to slow this process down. Any number of factors can play a role in a person losing some of their mental quickness. They may have a degenerative disease that affects the brain. It may be that they have such a hectic lifestyle, that it becomes harder to keep things straight in the middle of a whirlwind of work and family. Been there. Or it may have to do with their diet, which is what we will focus on here.

As you get older, your brain becomes less able to stave off the damage done by free-radicals in the body. Free radicals are basically oxygen molecules that have lost one of their electrons. This loss happens as a result of all of the millions of chemical reactions that occur in our bodies every day. These free radicals cause inflammation in the brain cells. Over time, this inflammation begins to kill the brain cells. The best defense against this is a diet rich in natural antioxidants.

Fruits and vegetables are great sources of antioxidants. The more of them you can include in your diet, the better. Good fruit choices include blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, strawberries, raspberries, plums, avocados, oranges, red grapes, cherries and red apples. Good vegetable choices include kale, spinach, Brussels sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, broccoli, red bell peppers and onions.

Another culprit in age-related memory loss, and something that needs to be addressed in you anti aging therapy plan, is the loss of nerve tissue in the brain. The brain is an amazing creation for a number of reasons. One thing that makes it amazing is the ability to dynamically create new pathways for nerves, to get information for one place to another within the brain. This ability to build and repair nerve tissue is critical to our ability to learn new things and to hold on to the memory of those things we have already learned. So, it is important to give our bodies the raw materials they need to keep up the maintenance of these nerve tissues. A diet packed with foods containing the B Vitamins and Vitamin E will help supply these raw materials. When you are looking for foods rich in these vitamins, try to include olive oil, leafy vegetables, eggs, walnuts, almonds, chicken and fish.

Remembering to include the right foods in your diet is critical to having an anti aging therapy to remember. I will be writing more articles on nutrition and anti aging in the future, so be on the lookout.
